About
Julian J. Cobian is a Mexican-American poet who indulges in travel and connecting with various cultures. He has a unique way of capturing the everyday human experience, collecting words from serendipitous interactions with random people. Growing up as a border kid with family both in San Diego, CA and Tijuana, Mexico, he has had an immersive bilingual experience in the English and Spanish languages and arts, and the perspectives of both cultures. To further expand his worldview, he then traveled to London, England to earn a Master’s degree in Creative Writing from Kingston University.
He is the creator and author of a three-book series of poetry, collectively titled 52 Weeks. Book titles include Waves, Horizons, and the self-titled 52 Weeks. These poems will take you from sandy beaches to the cobblestone streets of London, from ferry rides in New York to the time you first learned how to ride a bicycle. Julian brings nostalgia and connects us to the touching moments of our childhood, the euphoric love we first encounter as teenagers, the heartbreaks that crush the soul, and the self-sabotaging cycles we loop through. You will relate to the rollercoaster of emotions and situations we find ourselves in through the decades of being a human.
These words have been hiding in journals, loose papers, and in Dropbox for over two-and-a-half decades. When he decidedly moved to Austin, Texas in February 2021, he made a commitment to confront himself, process his many suppressed thoughts and feelings, and develop his craft of writing by piecing together a lifetime of written poems. This was an effort to find meaning, restore hope in humanity, and develop emotional intelligence. Julian feels intensely, and the writing of these poems have become a catalyst for self-growth, confidence, and finding his center. He is eager to share his words of poetry.
