About

Julian J. Cobian, MFA

Poet. Novelist. Writing at the intersection of memory, locale, and becoming.

Hola, I’m Julian J. Cobian a poet, writer, and visual thinker raised on the border towns of San Diego and Tijuana, where the tides of a Pacific Ocean upbringing shaped my mindset and vibration. Traveling and living abroad molded who I am. It has taught me to move with intention, not urgency.

I currently live in Austin, Texas, where the humid wind now carries my ideas through greenbelts, alongside long walks and coffee conversations. I write so the small things become big, and the big things feel intimate. My work moves between English and Spanish, tracing themes of longing, impressions, love, grief, introspection, and hope. I believe poems should sit beside you like a friend, offering a quiet truth, a question worth holding, or a reason to stay.

I am the creator and author of a three-book collection of poetry, titled the 52 Weeks Series. Book titles include Waves, Horizons, and the self-titled 52 Weeks. My poems take you from sandy beaches to the cobblestone streets of London, to ferry rides in New York and the first time you learned how to ride a bicycle. Rooted in nostalgia, my work connects the touching moments from childhood, the euphoria of your first love, to the ensuing soul-crushing heartbreaks, and the self-sabotaging cycles we loop through. Through my words, you will relive the rollercoaster of emotions and situations we find ourselves in through the lens of the human experience.

Having studied Creative Writing in London at Kingston University, my work continues to blend global influences with personal origins. When I’m not writing or reading my poetry aloud to the ocean, you’ll find me on a disc golf course or watching a Manchester United match. I believe life is best when it’s curious, jovial, and grounded in what matters most: genuine human connection, time with my parents, and my feet in the sand whenever possible.

Current Poetry News:

My fourth poetry collection, Between Blue Moons, is currently in editorial, being carefully sequenced.

My debut novel, The Echo in the Flame, is complete and preparing for publication, with an advanced eBook release date of spring 2026. The Echo in the Flame is a literary novel about love, inheritance, and the quiet forces that shape who we become. Centered around Caroline Loraine, the story follows a woman navigating ambition, intimacy, and the weight of what is passed down through family and unfinished choices. Spanning cities, inner lives, and moments of stillness, the novel explores limerence and how identity is forged in the spaces between what we inherit and what we claim for ourselves. It is a meditation on becoming, mindfulness, and finding the courage to listen to one’s fire within.
